Texan among dead in Alegeria hostage standoff

Posted: Updated:

Algeria is defending its response to the hostage crisis at natural gas complex that left a Texan dead.

23 hostages were killed, including one American, who's identified as Fred Buttaccio of Houston.

There are still Americans unaccounted for.

Another, Mark Cobb of Corpus Christi, is ok after family members confirmed they received a text message from him.

An Al-qaida linked group claims the attack was in response to French military operations in the African country of Mali.

Algerian officials say nearly 700 of its people, and more than 100-foreign workers, were released during the four day standoff.
