Suspected drunk driver injures two Carrollton police officers

Posted: Updated:

Two Carrollton police officers and a drunk driving suspect were taken to local hospitals Sunday morning following a crash on I-35E in Carrollton.

Police spokesman Jon Stovall says just after 6am the two officers were arresting a suspected drunk driver and putting him in a police SUV parked on the shoulder of I-35E near the entrance to the President George Bush Turnpike.  Carrollton 911 operators got a call from a motorist reporting another suspected drunk driver traveling north on I-35E. Stoval says moments later that car plowed into the back of the police SUV.

The northbound lanes of I-35E were closed for several hours Sunday morning while police investigated the wreck. Traffic was diverted onto the turnpike and then was able to get back onto the interstate.

The two police officers and the first drunk driving suspect were treated for cuts and bruises according to Stovall. Both DWI suspects are facing a variety of charges.
