The Falcons loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday marked the latest round of bad luck for Atlanta sports fans.
With a shot at the Super Bowl on the line, the Falcons blew a 17 point lead and fell to the 49ers, 28-24 at the Georgia Dome.
The setback brought back a familiar sick feeling to University of Georgia fans. In the same building last December, the Bulldogs ran out of time against Alabama in the SEC Championship.
"We should have spiked the ball, and the Dawgs probably would've played in the national championship," said Charles Matthews, an Atlanta sports fan.
Last summer, an infamous infield fly rule call by an umpire played a major role in the Atlanta Braves' loss in a playoff game.
Three Georgia teams who had great seasons failed to win the game that mattered most.
"It seems that if you're a fan of Georgia or Atlanta at all, at some point it's not if they break your heart, it's when they break your heart," said Matthews.
Despite the heartbreaks, Matthews said he would remain loyal to the teams.
"I grew up here and I'll be a fan for life. One day we'll turn the corner," said Matthews.
Julio Teheran pitched 8 1-3 strong innings, Dan Uggla hit a three-run homer and the Atlanta Braves won their fourth straight game with a 5-1 victory over the struggling Minnesota Twins on Monday.
