FORT WORTH, Texas - An Arlington strip club owner will spend 10 years in prison for plotting to kill the Arlington mayor and a Dallas attorney.
Ryan Grant, 35, pleaded guilty to trying to hire a man to murder Mayor Robert Cluck and Attorney Tom Brandt, who were instrumental in closing his club, the Flashdancer Cabaret.
An FBI informant told investigators Grant asked him to find someone to murder the two men for $10,000 each.
The FBI captured text messages and had testimony from the informant that Grant gave the go-ahead to have Cluck and Brandt killed.
Investigators stepped in before that plot was carried out.
The defense argued Grant had an addiction to pain killers following an accident, which affected his behavior.
Grant said he regrets what he said, and never intended to hurt anyone.
But Mayor Cluck, who gave an impact statement at the sentencing, said he believes he'd be dead if law enforcement hadn't stepped in.
The federal judge also ordered Grant pay a $17,500 fine.
