A northwest suburban homeowner yelling at an apparent burglar scared the suspect from breaking in, police said Monday.
A resident in the 200 block of Red Oak Court in Island Lake told police he heard breaking glass at about 1:30 a.m. Jan. 16 and yelled out.
Whoever broke the glass in an attempt to burglarize the house left the area after the resident screamed. Responding officers found the rear sliding glass door broken and found numerous footprints leading to and from the home.
The attempted burglary case is under investigation. Neighbors are still being contacted and interviewed to determine what vehicles may have been seen in the area. Limited evidence has been collected for submission to the crime lab, police said.
The department is asking anyone with knowledge of the break-in to contact Detective Barry Huedepohl at (847) 526-2100.
