A guest at a Dallas motel spotted a small child wandering the property and called police early Wednesday morning.
Officers responded to the Best Value Inn on Preferred Place, off Interstate 20 between Westmoreland and Cockrell Hill Road, at about 12:30 a.m. Police knocked on several guests' doors to see if the parents were inside, but found no one who recognized the child.
"I opened the door. They said you know this little man, recognize him. I never seen that guy before," said Chris Colvin, a motel guest.
The healthy and happy 2-year-old was taken by Child Protective Services.
It wasn't until about 5 a.m. that the boy's father finally went to the front desk saying he woke up to find his child missing. He claimed the boy snuck out, and that he was sound asleep when police made their rounds.
The boy was released to his parents later in the morning.
Police are still investigating the case but have not filed any formal charges and did not make any arrests.
