Plano police shut down all lanes of southbound Highway 75 before dawn Wednesday after a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the freeway.
The victim is identified as 56-year-old Jimmy Dean McCarty of Dallas.
He was struck by a woman who had just entered the freeway and may not have been driving at highway speed yet, according to David Tilley of the Plano Police Department.
The woman stopped immediately and called police. She was not physically injured, but is described as being "distraught" over the accident.
"One of the sad parts about this, where he was struck is not that far from the bridge at Park [Boulevard] that allows you to walk over 75," said Tilley.
Police continue to investigate the accident.
