Catholic schools closing are not failing

The Archdiocese of New York has released the list of 22 elementary schools and two secondary that will close after June 2013.

Good Day NY spoke with Dr. Timothy McKniff, superintendent of schools of the Archdiocese of New York.

"It's frustrating because they're not failing schools. It's about economies and the limited resources we have. What we're trying to do is reduce the number of buildings in our system, to reduce those deficits, not the number of students.  We can keep all the students that want it, but we have to do it with fewer students," said McKniff.

In order to avoid more school closings in the future, McKniff says the state needs to pay approximately $30M it owes the schools of the Archdiocese for services rendered.
