DETROIT (WJBK) -- You can see them buzzing around the track on the lower level of Cobo at the Aisin Drive Green Experience and all over the auto show floor. Even luxury automakers like Mercedes are showing off electric vehicles.
"They last longer. They're faster. The fuel's cheap, and we can make electricity from anything. We don't run out of it like oil," says David West with Via Motors.
That's why he believes electric rides are the future. Via Motors electrifies all kinds of vehicles. Former GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, the father of the Chevy Volt, joined Via in 2011, and if you read the signs, automakers also want you to get amped about electrics. Over at Ford, a Focus Hybrid tells show goers to "charge me up and go".
Experts predict 20 years from now most people will be driving some sort of plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicle as we move toward better fuel economy and zero emissions.
Another eye catching, green touch at this year's auto show are LED headlights. They are the latest trend. Manufactures say they burn brighter and use less energy. Another added bonus is that one set of LEDs has the potential to last for the life of a vehicle.
Look for cars and their features to continue getting greener down the road.
