It didn't take long for American Idol judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj to run into some drama. They are two very opinionated ladies who bring unique perspectives to the judges table.
Following the much-publicized charlotte blowup, the tension between the two has continued. But both agree that the next Idol should be someone special.
"People love a unique different artist, especially in today's world where everything is sort of blending together," Mariah says.
"I just want to diversify the contestants that we are not passing people by 'cause they are different 'cause sometimes those different people are a people who change a generation," Nicki says.
Each superstar has strong ideas about what she's looking for in a contestant.
"It's not an arrogance and a cockiness that excites me, it's a peace, it's a certain calmness in a contestant that makes me feel that their drawing me into their world," Nicki says.
Meantime, Mariah says: "For me I always like the ones that are caught up in their vibe of their outfits and their this and that it's really about their singing… and if they can on top of that play an instrument."
Nicki makes it clear that the controversy over her confrontation with Mariah won't keep her from making the case for singers she believes in.
"If I see in you I'm going to fight, fight, fight and tell the other judges please believe in this person," she says.
