Friday, the Snellville woman who nearly lost her life battling a rare flesh-eating bacteria shared her story with students at a DeKalb County elementary school.
All New 106.7's Trey Thomas was there as Aimee Copeland entered the auditorium at Laurel Ridge Elementary. She was the guest speaker at a special pep rally for the students who are part of the Flying Eagle Running Club.
The students are getting ready for Romp through the Woods 5k race in April. Copeland was asked to speak to the first through fifth graders at the school to help motivate them.
Copeland told the students of her battle with a rare flesh-eating bacteria she contracted after a zip line accident last year and urged them to never give up on their dreams no matter how challenging.
She told the students she still loves swimming as well as kayaking and hiking.
Laurel Ridge Elementary is one of the most wheelchair accessible schools in the district and they have been recently paving a nature trail to give even more access to the running club.
