Police with the University of Georgia have released a sketch of a person wanted in connection with an assault on January 18.
According to UGA police, they say they received a report of an assault and an attempted rape at the Botanical Gardens located on South Milledge Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. They say the victim told them she was targeted while jogging and threatened at knifepoint.
"Someone approached her from the rear with a knife, put the knife to her throat, and basically expressed what their intent was to do, which was to rape her," said UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson.
Police say the woman's quick-thinking helped her get out of the situation safely. She calmly walked with the attacker and engaged him in conversation, even while he held this knife to her head
"I really think the young lady was really smart in how she responded. She showed a lot of poise and confidence, and I think that's probably what made this unsuccessful," said Williamson.
Police describe the suspect as a white male, approximately 6-feet-tall and weighs between 150 to 170 pounds. They say he has short, sandy blonde hair. He may have crooked teeth and two moles on the lower left side of his face.
If anyone recognizes the person in the sketch, or has any information about the incident, they are urged to contact the UGA Police Department at 706-542-0090.
