FWPD officer hurt in shootout

HALTOM CITY, Texas -

A Fort Worth police officer is in serious condition after he was shot in a Haltom City auto shop.

Haltom City police were chasing a suspect near Carson Street and Highway 121, when the suspect abandoned his car and ran toward the 2nd Opinion Auto Center.

Three on-duty Fort Worth officers happened to be inside the shop, talking to the owner. After being alerted about the suspect, they approached him and exchanged gunfire.

Fox 4 sources say the officer was shot three times in the head and hand. The injured officer was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. He is in serious condition, but expected to survive.

The suspect was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital with life-threatening injuries. His condition is not known.
