Woman escapes kidnapping attempt outside of North Texas mall

HURST, Texas -

Hurst police hope surveillance video will help them find a pair of kidnappers who tried to abduct a woman outside of the Northeast Mall.

It happened Jan. 26 in the middle of the afternoon in the parking lot near the Nordstrom department store.  The victim had just parked her car when the suspects, a man and a woman, pulled into a space next to her.  The victim tells Fox 4 she was on her cellphone, talking to a friend, and about to walk toward the store when the man got out.

"(He) kept asking if I could take a look at directions they had in the car. I warily took half a step to lean in and see who was driving. She never made eye contact with me and started fumbling around in the glove box when he said, ‘Where's that place we're looking for.' It was when I peeked around to see that he attempted to grab me," said the victim.

She did not want her name used.

"That's when I screamed, ‘No! What's your problem?!' He looked a little startled, " the victim relayed.

The victim's friend heard the entire ordeal over the open cellphone line.

The suspects sped off and the victim quickly ended her call and dialed 911.

Police say the two were in a dirty gold minivan with dark tinted windows.

The woman, who is still very much shaken up, said she still trembles just thinking about what could have happened.

"I think the scariest part, not the actual event, but trying to imagine what their intentions were. It's really hard to wrap your head around," she said.
