Police standoff ends with suspect shot

Posted: Updated:

A Grapevine man is hospitalized after he apparently shot himself during a standoff with police.

About 10:15 p.m., a woman called officers to say she was worried about a text from her son, and asked them to check on him.

When police got to the Cross Creek at Grapevine Ranch apartments, they saw a man with a weapon at the top of the stairs.

According to officers on the scene, the gunman fired one round at police, and they returned fire as he ran into his second-floor apartment. Police began to evacuate the nearby apartments.

Shortly afterward, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the residence. The suspect then opened the door and officers could see he had a self-inflicted wound to his head.

The man was taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital. If he survives, he could be charged with attempted capital murder because he shot at officers.
