With new apps come new concerns for parents

Posted: Updated:

The world of social media gets bigger every day with new websites and apps popping up all over the place.

The latest app to hit the market is already making quite an impression. It's called Vine, and it allows anyone to upload 6 seconds of high-definition video right to their Twitter feed. But it's popularity has some parents concerned.

Twitter owns the newest, hottest app called Vine. It sprouted up in the social media landscape a week ago and it's already the number one downloaded app in the Apple store.

Its popularity is growing amongst teens just like Twitter and Instagram.

Vine combines both YouTube and Twitter qualities -- users get mere seconds to create a video message.

You don't need a cameraman, you can shoot six seconds of video on your phone.

Video plus quick sharing of Twitter -- 140 characters -- and this is the marriage of those two.

The 6-second clip loops and the results are fascinating. Social media expert Jeff Moriarty showed us a newly launched website dedicated to only showing various Vines. It's called Vine Peek.

"It's almost like being a voyeur that can teleport all over the world, you'll see someone eating lunch, someone sky diving, someone's poodle," says Moriarty.

But within a week -- porn has already infiltrated in what started out as an innocent app under search words like #porn and #sex.

Users can already find an expansive video library of explicit 6-second pornographic clips.

"It does concern me," says parent Chris Harris.

Harris has a 13-year-old, and says having a conversation is the first step to keeping your teen safe.

"Talked to her about it. I look through her stuff. She shows me what's on there."
