Nick Van Exel's son has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of his friend.
On Friday the former Dallas Mavericks player was so emotional during the sentencing he had trouble speaking. He cried and apologized to the victim's family.
"I'm really sorry for your family. Nobody should have to go through something like this," he said.
Nickey Van Exel was convicted of killing Bradley Eyo in December 2010. Prosecutors said he was afraid Eyo would turn him in over some aggravated robberies in Houston.
The 22-year-old could have gotten life in prison. Instead he will spend 60 years behind bars.
