DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -

A teenger is dead after two teens allegedly tried to rob a basketball coach outside Detroit's Martin Luther King High School. The coach was carrying a gun and he used it. Saturday night, a vigil was held for the teen.

Fox 2's Ronnie Dahl talked to his mother. Click on the video player to watch.

Priscilla Scott, family members and her son's friends, gathered in the snowy parking lot where it's believed her 16 year old son, Michael Scott was shot. Detroit police say Scott and his 16 year old friend were attempting to rob the 70 year old girl's assistant basketball coach Friday around 7:30pm. The lady Crusaders had just won another game. The coach was walking some of the students to their cars when he says Scott and his friend pulled a gun on them. Michael's family says that wasn't him.

"Did your son have a gun? My son don't have a gun, no, my son don't have no gun," his mother told Fox 2. (Did the other kid?) I don't know, not that I know."

The coach, a reserve police officer, was carrying his own gun, and he was licensed to do so. He fired at the two teenagers, hitting both if them. Michael Scott died.

"They weren't in danger of my son," Scott said. "I don't feel, not Michael, he is not like that, I don't believe it."

Michael's mother is remembering him as a son with dreams, a teen who loved basketball. The 11th grader was enrolled at MLK. She's urging his fellow classmates to finish school and graduate in honor of her son.
