An elderly man accused of murdering his neighbors said he didn't have a choice.
Chung Kim told FOX 4 from jail that he was afraid of the couple upstairs – Michelle Jackson and Jamie Stafford.
The South Korean man who immigrated almost 50 years ago said Stafford threatened to kill him and put a gun to his head Monday morning at their northeast Dallas apartment complex on Abrams Road.
"He stick a gun at my head," he said. "Bring a gun, point it at me."
The neighbors had an ongoing feud because Kim said Stafford would hose dog poop off a balcony onto his front porch.
"Poured it. No bag… nothing. And he tells me, call police," he said.
Kim said he had called police in the past and talked to apartment managers, but nothing was ever done.
His story about what happened next is radically different than what police believe. They have accused him of knocking on the couple's door, shooting Jackson when she answered and then shooting Stafford as he tried to get away by jumping off the balcony.
But, Kim argued the gun was Stafford's. Despite his age and physical ailments, he said he used martial arts to overpower him and then shoot him in self-defense.
"Twist arm and take away gun," he said.
He said he didn't shoot Jackson and has no idea how she died. He didn't acknowledge the fact that she leaves behind five children.
He broke down and cried when his own family was mentioned, though. He said he knows he may never seem them again.
Kim is facing capital murder charges.
