Driver slams through Dallas toy store

Posted: Updated:

There was trouble in toy land at Preston Road and Royal Lane. An unsuspecting shopper, on her cell phone, turned her back to Toy Maven's front window, then heard glass shatter behind her. She ran to get out of the raging car's way.

"He came right through," Veronica Flores, a Toy Maven employee, said.

The 1996 Ford finally stopped 40 feet inside the store after plowing over an arts and crafts table and girls' display.

The driver, a 93-year-old man, said he accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake.

Nobody was hurt, but the driver and the woman sitting in the front seat were visibly shaken. Flores said two witnesses had to pull them out of the stranded sedan.

"It is a miracle it happened when I only had three people here," she said.

Luckily, no children were inside at the time. Flores said the car crashed through where kids usually play in the store.

"Normally, we have a play table you can probably see behind this bookshelf," she said. "Moms shop around and little kids play in this area."

Unbelievably, this isn't the first car accident to happen inside.

"Years ago, the same thing happened and the car actually exploded inside the store and the people that were driving passed away," Flores said. "Thank God that did not happen with us."
