A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was taken to the hospital Friday night after he was involved in a two-vehicle accident in McKinney.
Authorities say the trooper was eastbound on U.S. 380 near County Road 330 when he saw a motorist commit a traffic violation.
The trooper made a u-turn then turned on his emergency lights to pursue the vehicle.
At the same time, the driver of a pickup was pulling out of a driveway and thought he had enough room to beat the trooper across the road.
The trooper could not avoid the crash as his squad car sideswiped the truck.
The pickup's driver was able to walk away from the crash, police said.
The trooper, whose name is not being released, was taken to the Medical Center in Plano.
It took 30 minutes for troopers and emergency workers to get the trooper out of his car.
