A man who told police he was a murder suspect was shot and killed by Dallas police late Friday night.
Police spokesman Demarquis Black says officers were told the suspect wanted to turn himself in at a parking lot in the 6500 block of Skillman Ave. Black says when officers arrived at the parking lot, the suspect was sitting in a vehicle and was holding a weapon. As the officers approached the vehicle, the man pointed the weapon at them. Black says the officers feared for their safety and opened fire on the suspect.
After the shooting, Black says, a SWAT Team was called to the scene to approach the vehicle and determine the condition of the man inside. Those SWAT officers were able to tell the suspect was dead. The man has been identified as Stoney Eugene Rawlinson.
The police spokesman says a weapon was recovered from the vehicle.
Police sources say Rawlinson was wanted for killing his girlfriend last Thursday. Samantha Rasmus body was discovered in an enclosure in a residence in the 8400 block of Plainview Drive. The woman suffered multiple wounds according to the police sources.
