One week has passed since America's most decorated sniper and friend were murdered at a gun range near Glen Rose.
A cousin of the accused killer spoke with FOX 4's James Rose.
The immediate family of accused murderer Eddie Routh has not spoken publicly about the incident.
Despite the family's opposition, Routh's first cousin Adam Routh said he wants people to try to understand the man he knows, loves and still supports.
The 26-year-old said he and Eddie grew up together. He said Eddie was a fun-loving guy and wasn't quite the same when he got out of the U.S. Marine Corps after his tour in Iraq.
"He was still a good guy but I mean there was just emptiness, there was emptiness in his eyes. He would be aggressive a little bit you know, and it was just talking you know, be proud that's how I would recon it was. He was just proud, but maybe I just over looked the fact that he had issues," said Adam Routh.
Routh sent FOX 4 a picture of the two from several years ago. In the picture, Eddie Routh is on the right in his marine uniform.
Routh says he has not talked to his cousin since the incident. He hopes this case may open some dialog that will lead to help for veterans suffering from PTSD.
Eddie Routh remains in the Erath County jail on a $3 million dollar bond.
