FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. -

Authorities in Forsyth County say they have suspended the search of Lake Lanier for man who was last seen fishing from his boat on Monday night.

Police say the 47-year-old man was fishing near Lanier Beach South, and his boat was recovered on Tuesday morning near Bald Ridge Creek by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

According to authorities, the search for the man began at 10 p.m. on Monday. They say the man is well known in the area and frequently goes fishing at night.

Sgt. Greg Colson of the Georgia DNR says they received a call about a Jon Boat doing circles in the lake, but no one was on board. Officers recovered the boat along a bank.

Colson says they ran a registration check on the boat, and determined who owned the boat.

Members of the DNR, Forsyth County dive crews, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Corps of Engineers are searching for the missing man. Colson says they are using helicopters, sonar, and boats from Forsyth County.

Dive teams encountered rough conditions below the water's surface on Tuesday, hampering their efforts to figure if and where the fisherman went down.

The missing man's name has not been released.

The search will resume on Wednesday morning, officers said.
