DALLAS -
A Dallas mother and grandfather are in jail for allegedly leaving two toddlers in a filthy home alone overnight.
Police charged 23-year-old Sharon Jones and her father, 73-year-old Carl McFarland, with child abandonment. McFarland allegedly left the children in his northeast Dallas home to drop Jones off at work late Sunday night.
A neighbor called 911 after seeing the 4-year-old boy in the front yard without clothes on. The responding officers found the 1-year-old sleeping inside.
They said the children were living in "deplorable conditions" and Child Protective Services was notified.
Another neighbor believes it was a misunderstanding.
"He's certainly not a mean fellow or anything like that. He's certainly not neglectful," said Marty Grove.
Both children are now living with other family members.
