Officer-involved shooting investigated in Cobb County

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -
Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cobb County.
The incident occurred Tuesday around 5 p.m. A brief pursuit began after an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on Park Road, but the vehicle took off. During the course of the pursuit, several vehicles were struck and the suspect, 24-year-old Kevin Shymel Gibbs of Austell ended being shot by the officer. It is not clear at what point during the pursuit when Gibbs was shot.
Police say the pursuit ended with a collision at Spring Road and Glenroy Drive.
Gibbs was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Smyrna police say Gibbs is expected to be released from the hospital on Wednesday, and he faces several charges including aggravated assault with intent to murder and obstruction.
Police have not released the officer's name, citing the ongoing investigation into the incident. He has been place on routine administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.
