The boards of American Airlines and U.S. Airways will meet separately Wednesday to discuss a possible merger.
If the two companies agree to join forces they would create the world's largest airline. The boards were supposed to meet on Monday but that was postponed as final merger details were worked out.
The biggest obstacle right now is deciding on who would run the new company and how much creditors would get from the new carrier. A bankruptcy judge will have to sign off on any deal that is made.
American Airlines is trying to come to a decision by Friday when confidentiality agreements with bondholders expires.
