HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police have shot and killed a man who threatened his year-old son with a butcher knife and refused to surrender while smoking crack cocaine.
The toddler was not injured Wednesday night. Police didn't immediately release the name of the father or the officer who opened fire during the standoff at an apartment.
Neighbors called police about a man and a woman fighting. Police forced their way into the unit and the woman holding the boy put him down and ran outside.
Police spokesman John Cannon says the man picked up his son while smoking crack from a pipe. Cannon says an officer fired when the father put the knife to the child's throat.
Police say the boy's mother was at the complex but not present during the argument.
