COVINGTON, Ga. -
Two people were killed and two others were injured in a crash on Highway 36 in Covington on Thursday night, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP officials say a trooper tried to stop a Honda Accord speeding down Hwy 36 around 9:35 p.m., but the driver allegedly refused to stop. That driver lost control while passing another vehicle, rotated and ended up in the oncoming travel lane, where the vehicle was hit in its side by a Honda Pilot.
The Accord's driver, 27-year-old Donald Justin Barnes of Covington, and passenger, 30-year-old Kimberly Nicole Anglin of Covington, were killed. The driver of the Pilot, 17-year-old William Nicolaus Tanner, and passenger 18-year-old Amy Michelle Danieck were transported to Atlanta Medical Center. Their injuries are said to be serious, but not life-threatening.
The GSP said that there was never any contact between the patrol car and any other vehicle.
