Police catch Uptown robbery suspect in the act

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police were forced to use their Taser to stop a man from choking a woman he tried to rob in the Uptown area.

The victim told police she had just exited the Cityplace DART station to meet family for dinner along Mckinney Avenue Saturday night.

According to the victim, Rodney Jones approached her and demanded money. She told officers she ran to get away but Jones chased and shoved her to the ground in the 3600 block of Oak Grove Avenue. He then started to choke her.

A witness who saw all of this unfold said he tried to help the woman, but Jones threatened to kill him, and the victim.

Officers arrived on the scene saw Jones still on top of the woman with his hands around her neck, according to the police report.

Police ordered Jones to stop, but officers said Jones yelled, "I'm going to kill her! You are going to have to kill me!"

Officers tried to grab his hands, but that did not work. Police then deployed their Taser which finally stopped the 46-year-old Jones.

He is behind bars in the Dallas County jail facing a robbery charge.
