The detective stabbed by a prisoner before he escaped in Grapevine, visited the fugitive's hideout.
Police say Alberto Morales camped out in a wooded area before he was discovered, shot and killed. At Miami-Dade police detective Jaime Pardinas' request, detectives took him, his girlfriend and his daughter to the scene where the manhunt came to an end.
Pardinas was part of a two-man team transporting Morales from Florida to Nevada, when the prisoner escaped at a Grapevine Walmart. Morales stabbed the detective with a sharp piece of his eyeglasses.
He suffered deep stab wounds in his neck, shoulder and back. Bruising around his neck was still visible Monday.
Police found Morales over the weekend. They say he refused to cooperate and lunged toward officers, so they fatally shot him.
The detective was released from the hospital Feb. 16. His family hopes he will be able to return to Miami soon.
