SUPERIOR, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say U.S. 60 between Superior and Miami in south-central Arizona has been reopened after heavy snow closed the highway for several hours.

Arizona Department of Transportation officials say a cold front dumped heavy amounts of snow in some high-elevation areas of the state Wednesday.

The section of U.S. 60 was closed late Wednesday morning, but re-opened by late afternoon.

The heavy snow also affected State Route 87, where drivers are required to use chains or four-wheel drive vehicles from Payson to about 35 miles north of the city in northern Arizona.

ADOT prepared for the winter storm by making sure more than 150 snowplows were ready to head out onto highways throughout the central and northern Arizona region.
