NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Former New York Gov. David Paterson has landed a new job teaching at Touro College in Manhattan.

Paterson has joined the faculty at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and will teach medical school and law school students about health care-related legislation and the overall role of government in health care, the college announced.

"We are proud that Governor Paterson will become Professor Paterson by joining the faculty of Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine," Dr. Alan Kadish, the president and CEO of Touro, said in a statement. "It is clear that public policy will continue to play an ever-greater role in the provision of health care, and we want our students to have a deep understanding of their profession. Having David Paterson offer his insight will prove to be invaluable."

The former governor's official title is distinguished professor of health care and public policy.

Paterson represented Harlem in the state Senate for many years before being elected lieutenant governor in 2006 on the Democratic ticket with Eliot Spitzer.

When Spitzer resigned as governor in early 2008, Paterson succeeded him. His administration had its share of controversies and Paterson did not run for a full term.

Paterson currently serves as a member of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board. He hosted a show on WOR radio for about year until its cancelation in December 2012.
