Arlington SWAT situation ends in arrest

Posted: Updated:

A SWAT team was called into one Arlington neighborhood Friday morning after a call came in that a woman was being held against her will.

Someone called for help at about 1 a.m. She said she had escaped from a duplex in the 2500 block of Windy Pine Lane, but that a man who was still inside had assaulted another woman and wouldn't let her leave.

The standoff lasted about seven hours. During that time, police had no communication with the people inside the home.

Fearing the worst, Arlington police called in the SWAT team. They evacuated some close neighbors and told others to stay indoors.

Eventually they made entry and used a Taser on the suspect, who was identified as Cory Allen Black.

The woman was not seriously hurt.

A neighbor who saw the SWAT vehicle and officers closing in said it was a sight to see.

"It was parked like right up almost to the door. That's how close they were aiming the shooting right there, that close. I said oh my gosh he's either going out in a blaze of glory or he's going to surrender," said Jacque McDowell.

Black now faces a number of charges including possession of a firearm and unlawful restraint.

His bail was set at $6,000.
