The man on trial for the murder of a 10-year-old girl accepted a plea deal on Monday and will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Jose Sifuentes pleaded guilty to murder on the opening day of his trial.
He was originally charged with capital murder for killing Jasmen Gonzales in October 2011.
They were at a family gathering in Carrollton when she disappeared. Her body was found in a ditch.
The medical examiner's report said the little girl was sexually assaulted and stabbed to death.
According to the terms of Sifuentes's deal, he must serve at least 30 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
He could have faced the death penalty with the capital murder charge.
