Two burglary suspects got caught with thousands of dollars in stolen property because one of them fell asleep outside the victim's house.
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said his deputies arrested 18-year-old Jordan Alan Dorris Sunday morning after a man called to report finding him asleep in a strange vehicle on his property in Weatherford.
Lynn Burkhalter woke up Dorris and held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Burkhalter also reported that his 2001 Chevrolet dually pickup had been stolen and that a rifle and other property had been taken from several of his other vehicles.
Deputies questioned Dorris. He told them 17-year-old Caleb Andrew Kirkbride had taken the pickup. Neighbors also reported seeing the truck running other motorists off the road and hitting street signs.
Some of Burkhalter's stolen property ended up along the road.
"I do know some items wound up in front of my neighborho's and they said they some on their way to town," Burkhalter said.
The officers caught up with Kirkbride in the stolen truck on Prather Road.
The sheriff's department was able to recover the homeowner's truck, rifle and other property as well as stolen tools, lawn mowers, portable heaters and scrap metal. The vehicle Dorris had been sleeping in was also reported stolen.
Both suspects are now facing theft charges and Kirkbride was charged with burglary of a vehicle, burglary of a building, theft of a firearm and criminal mischief.
