The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $4.5 million plan to revamp security on campuses across the district.
A task force recommended the changes, after the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings left several children and teachers dead.
Under this plan, elementary schools will see the most improvements. All elementary campuses will get electronic door-strike buzzers, eight-camera digital recorder systems and card-reader systems.
Additional security cameras will be added at all secondary campuses and one-way observation portals will be put in every portable building.
Some of the improvements will be implemented immediately. All upgrades will be ready by the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.
