Arlington police are trying to determine if alcohol played a role in a fatal wreck that closed I-20 for two hours.
Police spokesman Sgt Christopher Cook says about 11pm Saturday night a vehicle was traveling on the interstate between Kelly Elliott and Park Springs Blvd, hit a guardrail and then rolled down an embankment. The woman driver and her female passenger were thrown from the vehicle. Cook says the woman driver died at the scene, the passenger was flown to a Fort Worth hospital with critical injuries. Sgt. Cook says investigators believe speed and alcohol may be contributing factors in the fatal crash.
The police spokesman says officers are continuing the investigation today trying to figure out where the women were coming from and what caused the driver to lose control.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
