Train hit and killed FW teen

Posted: Updated:

An 18 year old man trying to cross train tracks was hit and killed in Fort Worth.

The train was heading northbound around 2:30pm Sunday when he was struck near the 700 Block of Sycamore School Road.  Fort Worth police say he was crossing with a group of friends.

Witnesses say it appeared the train stopped suddenly. Raquel Espinoza with Union Pacific says three boys crossed without a problem. A forth boy fell, but made it across and the fifth boy was struck.

Espinoza says the engineer sounded the whistle as soon as he saw the first three boys. Police say one of the teens called 911.

Those who live in the area say kids cross the tracks frequently to go to a nearby store.
