Some jurors in Collin County will hear the custody dispute between Deion and Pilar Sanders this week as their divorce proceeding continues.
Opening statements began Tuesday morning at the Collin County Courthouse in McKinney. It's a courthouse the famous couple has seen many times already during their highly contentious divorce.
The headlines from Tuesday's session in front of the jury included Deion Sanders as the only witness. He contends that the whole custody issue was settled and that money is Pilar's only concern.
Pilar claims it is, and always has been, about the kids. She claims Deion's fame is what's getting in the way.
After Deion's attorneys finished, Pilar's attorneys got to cross examine.
Deion took the opportunity to get a little combative with them, which pushed his testimony to the end of the day.
The trial is expected to last through the rest of the week.
Custody has been a huge issue. Recently a judge granted them equal custody of their three children with a weekly schedule.
That temporary custody order gives Deion exclusive rights to determine the children's primary residence and make educational and extra-circular activity decisions. He also is required to pay for the children's attorney fees, which are about $108,000.
This week's hearing will outline a more permanent solution.
