Experts react to TSA allowing small knives on planes

A new policy by the Transportation Security Administration taking effect April 25 allows passengers to carry small knives, souvenir baseball bats, golf clubs and other sports equipment.

Good Day NY spoke with former pilot J.P. Tristani and airline industry expert Bill Fife about the changes.

"The bottom line, I'm more concerned with bombs and liquids ... the things that can really bring down a plane," said Fife.

Unions representing flight attendants say the items are still dangerous in the hands of the wrong passengers.

"It's dumb," said Tristani.

The policy change was based on a recommendation from an internal TSA working group, which decided the items represented no real danger, said David Castelveter, a spokesman for the agency.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
