A driver disappeared for a short time after an early morning police chase that ended in a crash.
Police said they saw the man speeding in the southern part of the city around 3:30 a.m. An officer tried pulling him over but he would not stop.
When the driver got to Joe Pool Lake he hit a cement barrier on Lake Ridge Parkway. Once officers were able to catch up to where the driver crashed they got out of their patrol car but could not find him.
Sheriff's deputies and a search and rescue team were called out to find the man. Police feared he may have been thrown into the lake since he was going more than 100 MPH before he collided with the barrier.
About an hour after the crash, a witness saw a man walking down Grand Peninsula Drive near Nautical Drive holding his chest. The witness called 911.
The driver was rushed to the hospital and will be charged. Police believe he was trying to walk home when he was spotted by the witness.
