Electric Daisy Carnival comes to Chicagoland Speedway in May

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Electric Daisy Carnival lineup has been released, featuring David Guetta, Tiesto and Avicii.

The three-day dance music festival will be held at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, May 24-26.

The Carnival started in Los Angeles in 1997 and since then, the so-called "World's Largest Electronic Music Festival" has been staged in California, Colorado, Las Vegas, and Texas, but never anywhere close to Chicago.

"I think the concert will be great for the people who stay off campus and don't have really options of elsewhere to go," one person says.

"It's hard to explain," another says of the music genre. "It sorta has it's own kinda feel to it, but it gets you just going, it gets you pumped. I listen to it when I'm lifting. It's awesome."

Joliet police say they're in the planning stages. Promoters and police say unlike other venues, ticket sales will be capped at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet at 90,000 for the three-day weekend. Ticket prices range from $175 to $300.

"Pretty much the staffing is going to be like a Nascar event," Commander Alan Roecher explains. "Because we have the unknowns, but we've also been in contact with Las Vegas PD. They say the event there has been very successful. They say the promoter is the best promoter they've worked with."

Controversy has followed this carnival and others like it, due to the number of drug overdoses and arrests. Joliet police say that will not be a problem here.

"As long as you're coming out here to have a good time, to listen to music, to enjoy yourself, that's what we want," Roecher says. "We don't want drugs, we don't want people bringing the criminal element here. If you want to bring that here, you're not going to be welcome here, you're going to be asked to leave or you're going to be arrested for that."

The president of the Chicagoland Speedway released a statement Thursday saying, "hosting the Electronic Daisy Carnival further demonstrates the capability of our world-class venue as a home to events of this caliber and magnitude and we look forward to introducing an entirely new audience to Illinois' largest sporting facility.
