It took rescuers almost an hour to cut a 29 year old man out of his pickup early Saturday morning after he slammed into a guardrail on I-45 south of the town of Wilmer.
Wilmer Police Corporal Jerry Valladarez says the driver apparently fell asleep and hit the guardrail on I-45 at Malloy Bridge Road. The guardrail sliced into the cab of the pickup and pinned the driver between the guardrail and the dashboard.
Valladarez says firemen from Ferris and Hutchins worked for almost an hour to cut the man out of the pickup. Once he was out, the man was flown by Careflite helicopter to a Dallas hospital. The police spokesman says the motorist's injuries are not life threatening.
Valladarez says the driver apparently fell asleep before hitting the guardrail. The name of the 29 year old driver has not been released.
