Police hope newly released video will solve elderly woman's murder

Posted: Updated:

Dallas police want the public to help them identify two people seen on newly released surveillance video who may be connected to an elderly woman's murder.

Saturday evening, officers were asked to check on 78-year-old Avenell Cowgill at her home in the 11300 block of Earlywood Drive. When they got there, they found her dead in her home.

The back door was open and investigators believe Cowgill may have been killed during a botched burglary.

Neighbors say she was an active widow who loved to work in her garden and volunteer at her church. She had not been seen for several days.

According to police, two men were seen at various stores using Cowgill's credit cards. They were seen driving off in an older model silver 4-door compact car with a missing hubcap.

Oak Farms Dairy and Crime Stoppers are offering up to a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 214-671-3647.
