Cops: Landlord kills tenant

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A landlord allegedly wrestled a gun away from his tenant and fatally shot him during fight in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon.

The dispute took place around 1:00 p.m. at a house on Shepherd Avenue in East New York and appeared to be over rent.

Authorities say the 63-year-old landlord threatened his tenant, Luis Martinez, 51, with a pipe.

Martinez then allegedly fired a shot at the landlord, which missed.   The landlord, identified by the New York Post as Philip Estevez, grabbed the gun and shot the Martinez in the chest.

Martinez died at the scene and the landlord was taken into custody, according to police.
