Ald. Ervin wants to roll back recent increase on cigarette tax

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
28th Ward Chicago Alderman Jason Ervin wants to roll back the recent increase in cigarette taxes.
Earlier this month, the county raised the tax another dollar to $6 a pack. Smokers are now paying more than $12 a pack.
Ervin says the new tax will lead to lower revenue because people will simply buy their cigarettes somewhere else. He also says it will also force police to waste time chasing tax cheats when they should be dealing with more serious crimes.
