MESQUITE, Texas -
Mesquite police say a woman killed her husband and two children before turning the gun on herself at a home in the 1400 block of Paintbrush Drive.
Police believe the shooting unfolded on Saturday because someone called 911 to report hearing shots fired.
When officers arrived they knocked on the door, but no one answered. Officers left the home and returned two more times attempting to make contact.
On Wednesday, officers made a follow-up stop and saw newspapers in the yard and mail in the mailbox. They decided to forcibly enter the home and that is when they discovered four bodies.
Among the dead are 44-year-old Marcelo Vazquez and his children, 18-year-old Alejandro Vazquez and 21-year-old Paulina Vazquez.
Police said 43-year-old Angelica Vazquez shot and killed them before turning the gun on herself.
The handgun was found on the floor in the master bedroom near her body.
