Junk mail still comes in the mail, and it can be just as maddening as an inbox filled with unwanted solicitations.
One viewer called the I-Team completely frustrated at the number of letters she gets, and wanted to know how to make it stop. There is a solution, but it isn't perfect.
The viewer from Newnan says she gets dozens of unsolicited letters about every two days. In one, she's owed $1.3 million. In another, she could win $3.2 million. But, they all require a fee.
Admittedly, she says, this happened because her husband fell for one of them. He sent $20 for a windfall of cash that never came. Now they are on some sort of list they can't seem to get off of.
So on her behalf, the I-Team called the Federal Trade Commission to find out just what she can do about this. Well, there is good news and bad news. The good news, click here! It will take you to the Direct Marketing Association's web site where you can opt out of commercial mailers for five years. This will reduce a lot of your junk mail. But here's the bad news: it only works if the companies that send you the junk actually participate in the Direct Marketing Association's program.
In the meantime, shred the junk mail you receive. Then, use that shredded paper as packing material if you have to ship a package or store a breakable item.
