A severely abused cocker spaniel found in a trash bag last week in New Jersey is recovering and will be ready for adoption in several weeks. The dog's owners have been arrested and charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty.

Samurai (or Sammy) was found on the side of the road in Wall Township on Friday.

The dog is being treated at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, New Jersey and is showing signs of improvement after years of abuse and neglect, according to Monmouth County SPCA officials.

Sammy, who is seven years old and has trouble walking, is looking for a loving home.

"We're talking about a good month or two (before he can be released)," said Chief Buddy Amato.

If you're interested in adopting Sammy, call 'Buddy' Amato of the SPCA at : 732-312-7153
